Incubator 2012
TORONTO – Frances-Anne Solomon, CEO of CaribbeanTales Worldwide Distribution, has announced the participants of the CaribbeanTales 2012 Incubator Program that includes established and emerging producers and mentors from Canada, the Caribbean Region and its Diaspora.
Sponsored by Telefilm Canada through its “Canadian Talent” promotion program, the 3-year old Incubator has proven its value as a stepping stone to the international market for Caribbean producers and content. Alumni have achieved wide success including Ian Harnarine with Doubles With Slight Pepper (CT Incubator 2010) that won Best Canadian Short at TIFF 2011 and the Genie for Best Live Action Film earlier this year; and Chris Browne’s Ghetta Life(Incubator 2011), that opens on theatrical release across Canada this month – to name just a few.
Kareem Mortimer, award-winning director of "Children of God" is one of the participants of CaribbeanTales 2012 Incubator.
“This amazing group is a testament to the growing strength of talent out there.” said Solomon, adding “We also welcome returnees who, armed with experience, can mentor newcomers as we build a global community.”
For the first time, the Incubator will use a peer mentoring approach to match participants, and help to hone and position projects for the international market. The 3-day Intensive culminates with a pitching breakfast, when industry reps are enticed to attend and offer feedback in exchange for a delicious Caribbean breakfast.
With some of the hottest current and emerging talent from the Caribbean Diaspora, the Program includes 17 projects, representing 9 countries and 4 continents, and will be facilitated by Producer/Director Nicole Brooks, and CTWD Chair Dr. Keith Nurse. The Co-ordinator is Malinda (“Docuvixen”) Francis.
