  • Panama Fever

    Panama Fever

    A teaser of the documentary, Panama Fever: A Caribbean Journey being produced by Alison Saunders, the great-great niece of a Barbadian Panama Canal worker. It traces her journey of discovery of the sacrifices, challenges and achievements of her ancestor and the other West Indian workers on the Panama Canal and their descendents. Alison was awarded a Caribbean Export grant to produce the teaser. She was also awarded a CaribbeanTales scholarship and a Trinidad and Tobago Film Company grant for the 2011 CaribbeanTales Toronto incubator to promote this project during the Toronto International Film Festival.

  • A Day in a Bajan Life

    A Day in a Bajan Life is a series of 10 cinematic, short film portraits of everyday life and people in Barbados, directed and shot by acclaimed Swedish filmmaker Pelle Hybbinette, an adopted Bajan. It’s an attempt to show the beautiful variety and contrast of this “paradise” island, from black to white, rich to poor. Pelle brings his love for his adopted island and a discerning and unique eye to his subjects. Two keywords are the dreams and ambitions of the subjects. The series is produced by Sea Weaver Productions Inc., Producer Penelope Hynam.

    Sing Your Song is the inspiring biographical documentary that surveys the life and times of singer/actor/activist Harry Belafonte. Belafonte’s groundbreaking career personifies the American civil rights movement and impacted many other social-justice movements. Belafonte is a tenacious hands-on activist, who worked intimately with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., mobilized celebrities for social justice, participated in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, and took action to counter gang violence and the incarceration of youth. An indomitable sense of optimism motivates his path even today.

    Long esteemed as “an aural and visual poet”, Susanne’s filmmaking is a stunning thirty-nine years of some of the most compelling documentaries of each decade. Her films have been shown in festivals, theatres and television world - wide and she has received multiple awards – most recently the NAACP Image Award for Best Documentary and the Gracie for Outstanding Director. Susanne received an MFA in filmmaking from New York University. Sing Your Song is further proof of her life long dedication to the belief in the power of art to change the world.
