Nicole Brooks

It is when Nicole Brooks envisions narratives that illuminate the peoples of the African Diaspora, matched with her over 10 years as an artistic maverick that her truest gift is manifested—that of harmonized storytelling…she has made a significant, no holds barred mark by blending her abilities in the Canadian film, television and performing arts scenes dazzling audiences as filmmaker, director, actress, playwright, teacher and ‘art-ivist’. Most notably, she’s done so fully committed to “our stories”.

Her producing and directing credits on both stage and screen have culminated in masterworks which can currently be seen on national and international television, and in playhouses in Toronto, Ontario, where she is based. Accolades include the critically acclaimed documentary ‘A LINC IN TIME, docu-series ECHO, music documentary THE SISTAHS CONCERT and dance film ORISHA SUITE. Currently, Ms. Brooks is workshopping her first musical play entitled OBEAH OPERA, scheduled to stage as a full scale production in spring 2012.

Coming up for Ms. Brooks is her next film— a documentary portrait of internationally acclaimed chanteuse and legend Salome Bey. There is no underestimating the evolution of Ms. Brooks in seeing diversity in film and the arts actualized. She is certainly one to be watched.
