This master class will be conducted in two three-hour sessions with veteran film and television composer John Welsman. In part 1 of these workshops, he will review the creative and business process of composing and producing a musical score for motion picture. In part 2, using scenes from films to illustrate various sound techniques, he will lead a discussion on the art of sound mixing — the editing and mixing of all the elements of sound: dialogue, narration, ADR, foley, ambiences, sound effects and, of course, music.

John Welsman is a composer, producer and arranger of music for television and film whose credits include over 20 MOWs, 10 series, 50 one-hour documentaries and mini-series, and five feature films. Recent film scores include Nurse.Fighter.Boy, A Winter Tale and The Limb Salesman. A 12-time Gemini Award nominee for his work, John was awarded the 1990, 1992, 1995 and 1996 Gemini Awards for Best Original Score for a Series for Road to Avonlea.
